South Africa is not known as being a filmic mecca but we should pay attention to its production as 2 movies proved that there was a lot of talent in that country : Yesterday from Darryll Roodt & Tsotsi from Gavin Hood. Yesterday, Love has the power to change our tomorrows . The movie relates the story of a young mother called Yesterday who discovers she has AIDS. Her husband, a migrant mine laborer who works in Johannesburg, who originally gave her the disease, rejects her. Her ambition becomes to live long enough to see her daughter, Beauty, go to school. Leleti Khumalo in the role of Yesterday is moving and really inspiring. The movie talks about love and hope through despair and disease, but also addresses issues like discrimination and stigma that is attached to the AIDS pandemic especially in villages in Africa.
