Tsotsi, Hope set him free. Tsotsi is a 2005 Academy Award-winning film, based on a novel of the same name by Athol Fugard. Tsotsi is a Sesotho slang word for a "thug" or "robber". Presley Chweneyagae eminently plays Tsotsi a young gang member that finds himself in charge of a young baby after hijacking a car. During 6-7 days, we watch Tsotsi metamorphosing himself from a displaced miscreant youth to a caring young adult, seeking redemption, feeling compassion for the baby and humanity as a whole. The story takes place in a township, but the issues of AIDS, poverty, crime are poignantly addressed. Those issues are unfortunately so universal that the story of the movie could have happened anywhere in the world.
A voir d'urgence !
